Tatkal Passport Renewal in Pune

The best place to get all information about renewal of passport is the Indian Passport Office website or passport office itself. Though website is quite informative, some information is clearly missed and will come to know only when you reach to passport office to submit passport application. When I applied for passport I checked passport office website as well as some other websites and blogs. The blogs were very informative but even confused me about some documents especially about Annexure F. Following are the documents that I provided to get my passport renewed in Tatkal and I got it on the 5th day after submitting my application form. I have tried to add the information here that is missing or not clearly mentioned on passport website.

  1. Application Form
There are three application forms that you need to fill for getting a passport. One of them is passport application form No. 1 and other is Personal Particulars (PP) form. The other form has to be filled in duplicate as well. One of the PP form is sent to commissioner office while other is sent to your local police station for verification. The application form can be filled up online or in paper. The tatkal option is not mentioned anywhere on the application form, instead you need to ask for it on the counter.
  1. Documents to be submitted
Ø      Annexure I:  Affidavit on non judicial stamp paper signed by Notary. Format can be found on passport office website.
Ø      Annexure F OR Three of Fourteen documents mentioned below
Annexure F: This verification certificate is essentially an endorsement of your credibility by an individual which is considered as an authority by the passport office. The format for this annexure and list of officer who can issue this certificate is available on passport website. The Annexure is supposed to be on original letter head of the issuing authority and should be submitted along with photocopy of issuing person ID card. The issuing authorities are beyond the accessibility of common people and very difficult to get

OR
Three out of fourteen documents mentioned below. Also at least one of them should be one from (a) to (i) and one should be photo Id card.
a)      Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC);
b)      Service Identity Card issued by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, local bodies or Public Limited Companies;
c)      SC/ST/ OBC Certificates;
d)      Freedom Fighter Identity Cards;
e)      Arms Licenses;
f)        Property Documents such as Pattas, Registered Deeds etc.;
g)      Rations Cards;
h)      Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen’s Pension Book/Pension Payment order, ex-servicemen’s Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age Pension Order, Widow Pension Order;
i)        Railway Identity Cards;
j)        Income Tax Identity (PAN) Cards;
k)      Bank/ Kisan/Post Office Passbooks;
l)        Student Identity Cards issued by Recognized Educational Institutions;
m)    Driving Licenses;
n)      Birth Certificates issued under the RBD Act.

I did not provide Annexure F, but provided with electricity bill, ration card, driving license and pan card.

Ø      Marriage Certificate or Annexure D if you are married and old passport does not have spouse name mentioned in it.
Ø      Supporting document for ECNR - ECNR stands for emigration check not required. List of eligible categories of individuals can be found on passport website. I submitted my engineering certificate as a supporting document.
Ø      Other documents: Though some websites or blogs suggests carrying birth certificate and residence proof as well, I did not submit those, but no harm in carrying those.

  1. Prepare two sets of photocopies of you documents/proofs. Attach one to passport application form no. 1 while attach other to one of the PP form. This information is not mentioned on passport website. Also carry originals for the same, passport officer checks originals as well.  One of the applicants was sent back because he was not carrying original Marriage Certificate.
  2. Sign all photocopies (Self attestation). This is mandatory.
  3. Most of the websites or blogs mention that Annexure F is mandatory to renew passport in Tatkal. The other option of submitting three documents out of fourteen is no more valid and passport website is still not updated with this information. Even I called three different agents for the same and got response as Annexure F is mandatory (one agent even told me that one Annexure F is not sufficient and now at least two Annexure F are required). This information from blog and agents really confused me.
So I decided to give a shot without Annexure F and produced electricity bill, ration card, driving license and pan card. I asked the passport officer for Tatkal renewal of my passport. The passport officer checked my documents in original and told me to pay Tatkal fee (He did not ask me for Annexure F). The passport reached to my house on 5th days.
  1. Make sure you have color photograph of size 3.5cm*3.5cm with white background. If you have photograph of less size or without white background, they will ask you to come back with proper photographs. Sign the photographs on the PP forms. Photograph on application form1 should not be signed.
  2. Make sure you fill all the information correctly on the application form. I seen one person sent back because he put his father’s first name only on the form instead of full name.
